Lower Manhattan Vision Plan

Conceptual Vision Plan, 2002

Client: Office of Mayor Michael Bloomberg, City of New York

Daniel L. Doctoroff, Deputy Mayor for Economic Development

In December, 2002, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg presented his Vision for Lower Manhattan. The urban design concepts for this vision were produced by Peterson/Littenberg. The Vision Plan proposes specific improvements to Lower Manhattan beyond the World Trade Center site, organizing and evaluating the potential for both residential and commercial development in the area. These new developments are contained within and served by a loop of new Boulevards, on West Street and Water Street, and new public squares in the proposed Fulton Street and Greenwich Street residential neighborhoods. This system of open spaces connects the Hudson and East Rivers around the tip of the island. Residential and commercial development are woven into this new network, creating a vibrant 24 hour neighborhood.
